Latest Smart Emerson Thermostats

The Emerson range of smart thermostats is marketed under the brand name “Sensi”. They have been in the smart thermostat game for a number of years now with their Wi-Fi model ST55, and Touchscreen model ST75.

In 2023, they released their latest models, the Sensi Lite (ST25) and Sensi Touch 2 (ST76).

31hT8JUjbgL. SL500

The Sensi Lite is easy to install and doesn't need a C-wire, making it great for most homes. It also lets you control it from your phone and focuses on keeping your data private.

31IY3jpGq8L. SL500

The Sensi Touch 2 has a fancy touchscreen and can work with extra room sensors to make your whole home comfy. However, it needs a C-wire to set up so a little trickier to install if you don't have a C-wire available.

Both models can save you money on energy bills and send you reminders about things like filter changes.

How To Find Your Thermostat Model Number?

Your thermostat model number is important as it makes resetting or fixing your thermostat much easier and more efficient. You can find the model number in two different locations.

  1. You may find the model number printed behind or on the surface of the thermostat near the operating keys or buttons. You may need to remove the faceplate to access the back of the thermostat.
  2. For some devices, you can find the model number through the operating menu of the thermostat.

Types of White Rodgers / Emerson / Sensi Thermostats

There are several types of White Rodgers / Emerson / Sensi thermostats on the market. These include;

  • Wi-Fi Thermostats
  • Programmable Thermostats
  • Line Voltage Thermostats
  • Non-Programmable Thermostats
  • Mechanical Thermostats
  • 80 Series Thermostats
  • 70 Series Thermostats
  • Blue Series 12” Touchscreen Thermostats
  • Blue Series 6” Touchscreen Thermostats
  • Blue Series 2” Touchscreen Thermostats
  • Classic 80 Series Digital Thermostats
  • Fan Coil Thermostat

Troubleshooting A White Rogers / Emerson Thermostat

Exact troubleshooting advice depends on the model. So I recommend you check the specific manual above for instructions. Below is some general advice to consider.

Thermostat Not Working

No Heat/No Cool/No Fan

There are several reasons why your fan, heat, or cool functions may not be working.

These could include a blown fuse, a tripped circuit breaker, an HVAC system that is turned off, a closed furnace blower door, improper furnace compartment door installation, or loose connections in either the thermostat or the HVAC system.

To address these issues, you could replace the blown fuse, reset the circuit breaker, turn the HVAC system back on, correctly position the furnace door, or tighten any loose connections.

Heat, Cool, or Fan Runs Constantly

If your heat, cool, or fan is running constantly, the most common culprit is often a short circuit in the thermostat or HVAC system wiring. To troubleshoot, turn off the power and carefully examine all wire connections to ensure there are no short circuits.

After checking, try resetting both the thermostat and the HVAC system. If the issue persists, I recommend contacting a pro.

Check out my guide on how to fix a heat pump that runs constantly.

Thermostat Display & Thermometer Disagree

If the temperature on your thermostat display doesn't match what you're seeing on a separate thermometer, don't panic just yet. A simple first step is to recalibrate the thermostat within a +/- 5-degree range to see if that resolves the discrepancy.

If the issue persists, it could point to a problem with the thermostat's internal sensor.

AC Not Cooling

Furnace (Air Conditioner) Cycles Too Fast or Slow

If your furnace or air conditioner is cycling too fast or too slow, the problem often comes down to the size of your HVAC system and where your thermostat is located.

If you have a digital thermostat, you can usually adjust the cycle rate directly in the installer settings by switching to ‘SLO' or slow cycle mode.

If you're using an older, non-digital thermostat, it may lack this feature, making it necessary to call an HVAC professional to examine your system size and thermostat placement.

The “Call for Service” icon appears on the display

This one is obvious! When the “Call for Service” icon shows up on your thermostat display, it's signaling that there's an issue requiring attention.

Common triggers for this message include distorted temperature readings, unresponsive buttons, a malfunctioning thermostat, or the device needing servicing.

Usually best to book in a pro to take a look.

Heat Pump 3

Heat pump system runs heat in cool mode/cool in heat mode

The reason for the distorted operation may simply be an improper O/B connection. To fix this problem, switch the “O” to “B” settings to “B” to “O’.

How To Reset Your White Rodgers / Emerson Thermostat

Resetting your White Rodgers or Emerson thermostat isn't the same for every model. Some, like the Classic 80 & 70 Series, need you to press specific buttons together, while others, Sensi Smart Thermostat, ask you to take out the batteries. Some have a reset option in their digital menu.

Should your HVAC system cease to function during periods of intense heat or severe cold, there's a potential you could experience a considerable amount of discomfort.

Don't worry because, in this guide, I’ve provided step-by-step instructions on how you can reset your White Rodgers thermostat to get your heating and cooling back up and running, so keep reading on!

Before you remove the thermostat from its base plate, as directed in the instructions, make sure to isolate the circuit to avoid exposure to live wiring.

Also, I always advise readers not to tackle any DIY or electrical tasks they are not skilled in carrying out, and if in any doubt, it’s best to get the help of a professional.

White Rodgers Thermostat: Find Your Thermostat Model First

The reset instructions can vary between each thermostat model. So to make sure you don’t make any mistakes and get the most accurate instructions, it’s better to know the specific model number of your thermostat.

  • Usually, the model number is printed on the back of the thermostat cover plate. So to find the model number you will have to remove the cover plate or pull the thermostat out from the wall mount.
  • Be careful when doing so as the thermostat wiring may be exposed when you remove the cover plate/thermostat display.
  • Besides that, you can also check the user manuals or any documentation that came with your thermostat to find your model number.
  • However, if you can’t find the exact model number, we have included images of each thermostat below to help guide you.
